Flourishing in the Messy Middle

For women over fifty who know something is changing and are ready to explore and connect as they find their way forward.

Your life looks good on paper, but something is changing

You've spent decades building a life you're proud of.

A career. Relationships. A reputation. A sense of who you are and where you belong.

You've been capable, responsible and resilient. You've solved problems, met expectations and built a life that, in many ways, works.

And yet, lately, something feels different.

Not necessarily wrong.

Just... different.

The questions that once seemed settled have quietly resurfaced.

Who am I now?

What matters most in this next chapter?

If work changes, the children leave home, ageing parents need more of me, or long-held routines no longer fit, who am I becoming?

For some, there’s been a dramatic event. Others can't pinpoint the moment things started to change.

It's more like an inner knowing that the life you've built no longer fits quite as comfortably as it once did.

This Space Has a Name

The Messy Middle

It's the space between who you have been and who you are becoming.

A season where the old story no longer fits, but the next one hasn't fully emerged.

It isn't a crisis.

It isn't failure.

And it doesn't mean you're falling behind.

It’s a natural part of a life that has been lived fully and intentionally.

The challenge is that most of us have never been taught how to navigate it.

The Gift of the Messy Middle

Inside the uncertainty of the Messy Middle lies something important.

An invitation

To pause

To listen more deeply to yourself, and

To begin writing the next chapter of your life.

It’s a time to make meaning of what is changing and allow those insights to shape what comes next.

A time to gently let go of ways of thinking, being and living that no longer fit the person you are today.

And a time to experiment. To try on new attitudes, habits, relationships, interests and creative paths.

The goal isn't to emerge with a perfectly mapped future.

It’s to become more deeply connected to yourself, more open to possibility, and more willing to trust the unfolding of your next chapter.

What Helps In the Messy Middle?

Talking with other women who get it.

Space to pause, reflect and actually hear yourself think.

Fresh perspectives that challenge or reshape yours.

Practical tools and frameworks to test out

Support to uncover possibilities and try new approaches

Introducing the

Flourishing in The Messy Middle Program

This program meets you at the crossroads of the Messy Middle - somewhere between uncertainty and excitement as you notice what’s changing and step more deeply into exploring what that means and how you want your next chapter to be.

A three-month journey of reflection, exploration and growth.

Guided conversations and meaningful activities to help make sense of what’s changing, explore new possibilities, and begin shaping the next chapter of your life.

More than just content - you’ll hear other women’s stories and share your own, in ways that everyday life doesn’t quite allow.

Diverse perspectives that spark ideas you’d never find by thinking about this alone.

Joyful connection with a room full of women on the same path.

By the end of the program, you won’t have every answer. That’s not the goal.

Instead, we’ll do some messy middle mapping and possibility planning.

Flourishing is about staying open, connected and curious as you create a future that feels true to who you are becoming.

Founding cohort 12 - 15 women only

Starts 22 September 2026, weekly for six weeks and a final session on December 8th.

7.00 PM - 8.30 PM

$745 (founding rate)

Seven Conversations

To Help You Map the Messy Middle, Create a Possibility Plan and Flourish

Together, you'll explore the interconnected themes of BEING, BECOMING AND BELONGING to reconnect you with yourself, awaken new possibilities, and discover what flourishing looks like for you.

1 | Finding Yourself in the Messy Middle

Understanding where you are now and making sense of the transition you’re experiencing.

You’ll explore what has shifted, the questions that are emerging, and why this stage of life can feel both uncertain and full of possibility.

2 | BEING- Reconnecting With Who You Are Now

Understanding yourself beyond the roles and expectations that have shaped your life.

You’ll reflect on your values, strengths, experiences and identity, recognising what you want to carry forward and what you may be ready to release.

3 | What Matters Now?

Discovering what you want this next chapter of life to be about.

You’ll explore what brings meaning, energy and fulfilment now, and begin identifying what deserves more space and attention in your life.

4 | BECOMING: Exploring What Is Emerging

Imagining possibilities for your next chapter without needing to have all the answers.

You’ll explore ideas, interests and opportunities that are calling your attention and identify small steps that allow you to discover what fits.

5 | BELONGING: Creating a Life That Feels Connected and Meaningful

Exploring where you want to belong, contribute and connect in this next stage of life.

You’ll consider what belonging looks like in this chapter and the relationships, communities and activities that support the person you are becoming.

6 | Moving Forward With Self-Trust

Bringing your insights together and creating a way forward that feels true to you.

You'll create your own Possibility Plan: clarifying what matters now, identifying the possibilities you want to explore, and choosing one small, meaningful experiment to begin.

7 | Follow-Up Gathering

Reflect, refine and continue

A month after the program ends, we’ll reconnect to reflect on what has shifted, celebrate what you’ve discovered, and revisit your Possibility Plan. You’ll identify what you want to continue exploring and choose your next small experiments as you keep creating a flourishing future.

P.S. If you’re waiting to ‘have it all figured out’ before you make a move, this probably isn’t the program for you. If you’re up for a bit of honest reflection, good company and some possibility planning? You’re in the right place.

What Does Flourishing in the Messy Middle Look Like?

Swapping “I should have it all figured out” for curiosity and self‑trust and a more generous view of yourself.

Feeling glimmers of possibility, fun, joy and even a little awe about what could come next.

Trusting yourself enough to try small experiments, without needing a perfect plan.

Letting your next chapter be guided by wonder and courage, with a good dose of self‑compassion, rather than ‘soldiering on’.

Not sure if this is the right fit?

If you’re curious but not yet certain, you’re welcome to book a short conversation. We’ll explore where you are in your messy middle, what you’re hoping for next, and whether this program is a good match.

Meet Your Facilitator Sue West

I am a seasoned facilitator who sees the mid and ‘north mid’ parts of a woman’s life as filled with possibility and potential.

I’ve studied how to help people navigate transitions with the US-based Modern Elder Academy, completed specialist coaching training in late-career and retirement transitions, and continue to devour the research, ideas and books that help women move through change in smarter, kinder ways.

In other words, this isn’t just “I’ve done a big life change, so let me show you how.” I bring a well-honed toolkit, tested frameworks and a deep curiosity about what actually helps women flourish in the Messy Middle.

Through Flourish After Fifty, I have walked alongside many women as they rethink work, redesign daily life and step into futures that feel more authentic, spacious and satisfying.

You don't need to know the whole path yet

The next chapter doesn't need to be perfectly planned. It begins with a willingness to ask new questions, listen to yourself differently, and take the next step with support.
